The Alden Park Towers consists of a compound of four eight-story luxury apartment buildings located at 8100 East Jefferson Avenue along the Gold Coast in Detroit, Michigan. It is currently known as Alden Towers. The collective of structures was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. [1]
The Highland Park General Hospital is a former hospital complex located at 357 Glendale Avenue in Highland Park, Michigan. It was closed in 1976 and designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1979 [3] and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. [1] The hospital primarily served African Americans. The area that became Highland Park began as a small farming community, on a large ridge at what is now Woodward Avenue and Highland, six miles (9.7 km) north of Detroit. In 1818, prominent Detroit judge Augustus B. Woodward bought the ridge, and platted the village of Woodwardville in 1825.
As a result, the population of Highland Park exploded, increasing by a factor of ten between 1900 and 1910 (from 427 to 4120), and by another factor of ten by 1920 (to 46,499). The residential areas of Highland Park followed suit, including the Medbury's and Grove Lawn subdivisions, which were platted at some time between 1904 and 1914.
