For the Universal Studios Florida park project, Universal borrowed components of the Hollywood tram experience when designing the ride in Orlando. The original ride was designed by MCA/Universal Planning and Development, in association with Ride & Show Engineering, Inc. , a company that designed the original scenes on the Studio Tour.
Sky Ride opened in 1975 and closed in 1995. Sky Ride was a cable car ride which had stations located in Hanna Barbera Land and Candy Apple Grove. Time Shaft (Rotor Ride), Haunted River (formerly Journey to Atlantis), Smurf Mountain (formerly The Land of Dooz) were closed and removed in 1995 to make room for Volcano: The Blast Coaster.
Once the ride starts, Kang and Kodos exclaim they have tricked the guests and the only way to get off the ride is to "attack" Springfield. Nelson, Homer, Bart, Willie and Grandpa will interact with the riders when the riders pass their faces which also spin when they are passed. Also during the ride, Kang and Kodos interact with the riders as well.
