In the 2002-2003 school year Swanton High moved into its new school building. The school' provides for 9th to 12th grades. During the 2005-2006 [needs update] school year, there were of 145 freshmen, 127 sophomores, 142 juniors and 127 seniors, totalling 541 students. 495 of those students were Caucasian, 9 were Black, 15 Hispanic and 6 of other races.
The High School for Math, Science and Engineering at City College was created in 2002, with an emphasis on engineering. As of 2024, the school is #3 in New York State and #36 in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. [4] HSMSE was designed to be a small school with only about four hundred students.
William Howard Taft High School is a former New York City high school in the southwest section of the Bronx, whose building now houses small specialized high schools. The school was operated by the New York City Department of Education. The Taft school campus is located on Sheridan Avenue and 172nd Street in the Bronx.
In 1999, the Second Opportunity School had 16 staff and 100 students. Although the school had success working with troubled students, the City spent $60,000 per student, making it one of the most expensive public schools in New York City. After 2006, the Second Opportunity School was run solely by the NYC Department of Education. [7]
