The first Ford company vehicle to use a Torsen differential was the 2002 Ford Ranger FX4, renamed in 2003+ years to FX4 Level II, all of which used T-2R in the rear differential only. Starting in 2012, the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor uses a front Torsen differential and the Ford Mustang Boss 302 uses a rear Torsen differential.
Audi Quattro Torsen Differential. Geared, torque-sensitive mechanical limited-slip differentials use worm gears and spur gears to distribute and differentiate input power between two drive wheels or front and back axles. This is a completely separate design from the most common beveled spider gear designs seen in most automotive applications.
The sport differential replaces the normal open rear differential while the front axle still rely on an open differential with EDL. [5] The torque vectoring rear axle differential is designed and manufactured by Magna Powertrain, [7] and is being offered on Audi A4, A5, A6 and their derivatives (including RS models).
A differential is a gear train with three drive shafts that has the property that the rotational speed of one shaft is the average of the speeds of the others. A common use of differentials is in motor vehicles, to allow the wheels at each end of a drive axle to rotate at different speeds while cornering.
The rear axle had a locking differential with a 4.10:1 gear ratio, [7] with an open-differential front axle. For 2012, the open front axle was replaced by a Torsen helical gear limited slip differential. [8] In place of the all-season tires of the F-150, the Raptor was fitted with 315/70/17" BFGoodrich KO tires.
All of these Dana 70 front axles were closed knuckle, with king pins and had a GAWR of 6000 lbs. Like the rear Dana 70 axles, the Dana 70 front axle started out with 23 spline axle shafts and then went to 35 spline axle shafts. While these axles were being manufactured, Dana offered a "Power-Lok" limited slip differential for some of these axles.
