The county was created by the Michigan Legislature in 1840 as Aischum County, [4] then renamed Lake County in 1843, for its many lakes. It was administered by a succession of other Michigan counties prior to the organization of county government in 1871.

Chase Township is a civil township of Lake County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,153 at the 2020 census. [3] The unincorporated community of Chase is the only significant population center in the township.
