I have a model 70 chambered in .300 Weatherby Magnum the serial number tells me it's from around 1986 Great looking rifle smooth action I'm thinking about getting a magna brake installed from magna port international I live in the area where they are,I want to shoot this rifle more but my old skinny body won't take the kick to well for much longer
My WBY rifle is a Remington 700 300 Weatherby Classic. Next best was 168 grain E-tips & Magnum powder ~ 1.5 MOA - about the same as I've gotten with 180 grain partitions. I'm using 215 primers in my WBY.
Try IMR 7977 powder as well. I have a .300 Ackley, which is essentially a .300 Weatherby Improved, and with 7977 (on a ridiculously hot and humid day) I was getting an SD of 7, and an ES of 14 FPS. That's one of the most consistent powders I've ever used in a big magnum cartridge on a day with conditions like that.
I am having trouble deciding what the correct move is for a muzzle brake for my 300 Weatherby Magnum, Mark V, bought circa 1980. To start with, the outside diameter of the barrel at the tip is .610. I believe this means that I need to find something with a 1/2 by 28 thread.
Complete burn should not be a factor with a barrel that short. With the capacity of the .300 Wby, you would need a 30"+ barrel for a complete burn anyway. So, for bullets between 180-215 grains, I'd say 7828/7828 SSC should be fine.

To date my most accurate rifle is a 300 Wby I built in 1994 on a Mark 5 action. 80.00 of 7828 / 3000 fps with a 210 Berger. Will routinely shoot less than 1 in. groups at 300 and 4-5 in. at 1000-1250.
I would seriously concider the Sendero and use the money you saved for a great scope. I just swapped my .300 Weatherby for a Bushmaster, my .300 ultra is more accurate than the Weatherby was. Weatherby didn't like boattails. It's my understanding that all Weatherby cartridges have the freebore, standard calibers don't.
I've been looking and narrowed down to 300 Weatherby magnum or getting the 338 Lapua. They are awful similar balistically between the two as I'm comparing them. The 338 carries more energy, 100gr more will do that, and edges out on elevation. The 338 is much better against the wind compared to the 300.
