Marwar painting is a traditional form of Indian painting that originated in the city of Jodhpur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Even though it emerged under the larger umbrella of Rajput painting , Marwar School created an original style as it was partly influenced by Mughal art and showcased many original elements.

Marwar (also called Jodhpur region) is a region of western Rajasthan state in North Western India. It lies partly in the Thar Desert. The word 'maru' is Sanskrit for desert. Upon hearing of this news, the Marwar loyalists led by Sonig Rathore and Ram Bhati captured the fort of Jodhpur from the Mughal officers, Tahir Beg and Tahawar Khan.
