Primelephas is a genus of Elephantinae [1] that existed during the Miocene and Pliocene epochs. The name of the genus suggests 'first elephant'. These primitive elephantids are thought to be the common ancestor of Mammuthus, the mammoths, and the closely allied genera Elephas and Loxodonta, the Asian and African elephants, diverging some 4-6 million years ago. HDMS Elephanten (transl. The elephant, from the Order of the Elephant) was a ship of the line of the Royal Dano-Norwegian Navy that served from 1703 to 1728. [3] There were three other Danish ships-of-the line of the same name, dating from 1684, 1741 and 1773.
