In the 1950s most of it was flooded and became the Buggs Island Lake/John H. Kerr Reservoir in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. The house was built circa 1800 by George Tarry on land belonging to his father, Samuel Tarry, and Long Grass Plantation encompassed approximately 2000 acres (8 km 2 ).
Eagle Point is located on Kerr Reservoir (Buggs Island Lake) in Mecklenburg County, and is a short-term camping facility used for camporees. They reopened the campground in 2009, and operated as Mountain Spring Resort. [4] The property changed hands again in 2011, and the new owners changed its name back to Shenandoah Acres, with plans to reopen the lake in spring 2012. In 2014, Garland Eutsler and ShenAcres Holdings LLC purchased the property, with plans to reopen it as a resort. [5]
The park includes cabins, areas for camping, fishing, and swimming, a public beach, and over 19 miles (31 km) of trails for hiking and biking. Virginia's most popular state park, it's visited by over a million people each year. Its main entrance is located on Shore Drive across from the beach camping entrance.
Rocky Knob Recreation Area is a 4,500 acres (18 km 2) recreation area along the Blue Ridge Parkway, which spans from mile markers 167–174. [1] The park is home to 15 miles of hiking trails, 81 tents camping sites, 28 RV sites, and 72 picnic sites. [2]
