Most PW's are 46-48* and sand wedges are usually 56* (but can be 54-60). What you're looking for is a Gap Wedge in the 50-52* range. A lot of golf shops can check the lofts of your current clubs to help you narrow your search. Chris
You might not find your standard pitching and sand wedges up to the task. A big reason for this could be the length of their shafts. the Sand wedge should be half an inch shorter than the Pitching wedge; the L (Lofted) wedge should be half an inch shorter than the sand wedge.
Like all PING golf clubs, they are meant to be custom ordered to your specifications including shaft, grip texture, grip size, lie, and loft. If you were to get a set of G15s off the rack, they come standard with either the PING AWT steel (Soft R, R, S, and X flexes) or TFC 149i graphite shaft (L, Soft R, R and S flexes).
56 degrees seems to be the standard for a sand wedge although plenty of people have other lofts (54 seems to be popular). Most teaching I've seen shows how you should take your 56 degree, open your stance, open your clubface and use this added loft to give you more height out of the greenside bun...
When I travel to a course with more powdery sand, the 12° goes in the bag.” I started carrying 4 wedges (46* PW, 50.08 Gap, 54.14 Sand, 58.08 Lob) because it gives me the right option no matter what lie I have. And, I have noticed that I can encounter firm sand and soft sand, tight lies and fluffy lies on the same course on the same day.

True to PING’s marketing, I did launch the wedges lower than my current wedges. This makes them easier to control, which is exactly what you want from your scoring clubs. With my current clubs, I avoided taking full swing shots with my gap or sand wedges because they would fly so high. I can hit the G30 gap and sand wedges with full confidence.
The 9-iron, 10-iron, and pitching wedge shown here illustrate how the generous offset carries through the short irons. I very much liked the loft progression. I felt like I had much more precise control of distance throughout the entire set. And these clubs matched up well with my 52° gap wedge and 58° sand/lob wedge.
The Idea Pro hybrids are available in five models with lofts ranging from 16° (1-iron) to 26° (5-iron). There’s also a 50.5° gap wedge with 8° of bounce, a 55° sand wedge with 10° bounce, and a 60° lob wedge with 8° bounce. The irons are also available in graphite. The stock graphite shaft is a Graphite Design GAT 95 model.
Can someone tell me the loft of the old Karsten III sand wedge? I have a set of G5 irons but the sand wedge is only 54 degrees. There is virtually no chance of finding a G5 lob wedge here in South Africa. I have been sniffing around to see if I could find a wedge like my old Eye sand wedge which I loved and should never have sold.
