Osceola County (/ ˌ ɒ s i ˈ oʊ l ə / AH-see-OH-lə) is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 388,656. [1] Its county seat is Kissimmee. [2] Osceola County is included in the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford, Fla. Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The Osceola County Courthouse (constructed in 1889–90) is a historic courthouse in Kissimmee, Florida, located at 3 Courthouse Square. On August 16, 1977, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places .
It includes 39.06 sq mi (101.2 km 2) within Orange and Osceola counties in Florida, encompassing the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista as well as unincorporated land. It acts with most of the same authority and responsibility as a county government. [1] [2]
Per the State of Florida Constitution, the Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of the county's incorporated and unincorporated areas. The current Sheriff is Marcos R. Lopez, the 20th sheriff of the county and the first Hispanic to serve as a Sheriff. The agency has over 700 employees and serves a population of 390,341.
