Long Point State Park – Thousand Islands is a 23-acre (0.093 km 2) state park located at the northeast tip of Point Peninsula on Lake Ontario's Chaumont Bay. The park is located in the Town of Lyme in Jefferson County, New York. The park was established by New York State in 1913 as part of the St. Lawrence Reservation. [3]
The LPRCA operates the 301-acre (122 ha) Deer Creek Conservation Authority. Deer Creek was dammed in 1969, creating an 80-acre (32 ha) reservoir. [3] [4] [5] The reservoir is in a forested area, and the Conservation Authority opened campsites, available for campers. Canoes can be rented.
The Long Point Region Conservation Area is an agency of the province of Ontario, Canada, formed to preserve the volume of flow, and purity, of the watercourses that flow into Lake Erie, near Long Point. [1] Rivers that flow through the region include Big Otter Creek, Big Creek, Lynn River and Nanticoke Creek. [1]
Long Point Provincial Park was created in 1921 at the base of the peninsula. [10] The Long Point Company transferred part of its land to the Canadian Wildlife Service, which made it a National Wildlife Area in 1980. [8] In 1982, Long Point was recognised as a Ramsar site. [11] Finally, it was recognized as a Biosphere Reserve in 1986. [12]

Long Point State Park trail system [ edit ] In the Fall of 2013, community volunteers, with the approval of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation , developed a new trail system on the east side of New York Route 90 , which divides the formerly undeveloped inland section of the park from the waterfront section.
