Kottayan Katankot Venugopal (born 6 September 1931) is an Indian constitutional lawyer and a senior advocate in the Supreme Court of India. [1] He was enrolled as an advocate on 27 January 1954. On 1 July 2017, he was appointed as the Attorney General of India and retired on 30 September 2022.
The post was created by the Constitution of India (vide Article 165) and corresponds to that of Attorney General for India at the union government level. The governor of each state shall appoint a person who is qualified to be appointed as judge of the High Court as the advocate general.
An Attorney General is appointed by the President on recommendation of the Prime Minister. The Attorney General's Office is a constitutional body under the Constitution of Nepal (2015).
