Jacob Ludwig Karl Grimm and Wilhelm Carl Grimm were born on 4 January 1785 and 24 February 1786, respectively, in Hanau in the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel, within the Holy Roman Empire (present-day Germany), to Philipp Wilhelm Grimm, a jurist, and Dorothea Grimm (née Zimmer), daughter of a Kassel city councilman. Jacob Ludwig Karl Grimm (4 January 1785 – 20 September 1863), also known as Ludwig Karl, was a German author, linguist, philologist, jurist, and folklorist.He formulated Grimm's law of linguistics, and was the co-author of the Deutsches Wörterbuch, the author of Deutsche Mythologie, and the editor of Grimms' Fairy Tales.
The tale was published by the Brothers Grimm in the first edition of Kinder- und Hausmärchen in 1812 as tale no. 19. Their source was the German painter Philipp Otto Runge (1777–1810), from whom the Grimms obtained a manuscript of the tale in 1809.
"The Wedding of Mrs. Fox" is featured in Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics.In this version, the wealthy Mr. Fox is convinced by a devilish fox he encounters fishing that his beautiful wife is being unfaithful and convinces him to at first follow her though he finds no proof of infidelity so the devilish fox suggests he pretend he is dead, fooling both his wife and their feline maid.
Wilhelm Carl Grimm (also Karl; [a] 24 February 1786 – 16 December 1859) was a German author, philologist and anthropologist. He was the younger brother of Jacob Grimm , of the literary duo the Brothers Grimm .
