Rockport is a city and county seat of Aransas County, Texas, United States. The population was 10,070 at the 2020 census . Rockport is adjacent to the town of Fulton , and many refer to the combined communities as "Rockport-Fulton"; however, Rockport and Fulton are legally separate municipalities.
State Highway 188 (SH 188) is a state highway in the Coastal Bend region of Texas. It runs 41.327 miles (66.509 km) from Mathis east to Aransas Bay between Rockport and Port Aransas . SH 188 was established in its current form in 1992, after a previous incarnation existed from 1932 to 1942.
The road was created in 1939 when SH 35 was rerouted south and east of town. The route was redesignated as Business SH 35-L on June 21, 1990. On April 27, 1995 the route was extended north to SH 35 and FM 3036 and south to SH 35 in Aransas Pass over former SH 35 and was also rerouted in Rockport with the old route redesignated as Loop 70 .

In Texas, the road runs south-north for 471.3 miles (758.5 km) from the International border with Mexico to the Oklahoma state line north of Gainesville. The highway is being upgraded to a freeway near Corpus Christi to connect to the freeway part of the highway in Raymondville as part of future I-69.
SH 57 was originally designated on August 21, 1923, on a route along the Gulf Coast from Rockport to Gregory, replacing part of SH 12, which was relocated to the west. [5] On March 19, 1928, the route was extended to east of Blessing. [6] On April 25, 1929, a section from Corpus Christi to Chapman Ranch was added. [7]
[4] [5] On February 22, 1928, the route was extended south to Rockport, replacing part of SH 113. On March 19, 1928, this route was cancelled in exchange for extending SH 57 and rerouting SH 58. On March 19, 1930, SH 59 was designated again between Bowie and Montague, with a proposed extension north to Nocona as a renumbering of SH 2F.
