Maliq & D'Essentials was conceived on 15 May 2002 with eight personnel under a genre they call organic music. The name MALIQ itself is an acronym for Music and Live Instrument Quality as the brainchild of brothers Angga & Widi Puradiredja (the group's vocalist and drummer, respectively; as well as producer, composer and arranger for the group).
Radja was formed in Banjarmasin, Indonesia, on 17 March 1999 and originally consisted of brothers Ian Kasela (vocals) and Moldy Kusnadi (guitar), as well as drummer Adit Taher and bassist Shuma. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] In their early days, the band performed in exchange for Nasi Bungkus, a humble Indonesian rice dish, at local cafes. [ 4 ]
At the 2006 Anugerah Planet Muzik which is an annual award given to the most popular artists from Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, and Malaysia Peterpan won two awards as the "Best Duo/Group" for song "Tak Bisakah" and "Most Popular Group Artist". Peterpan also won their second award as Indonesia's favorite artist at MTV Asia Aid.
