UPDATE Saturday 16th March 2024: This morning I broke trail to San Jacinto Peak from Devil's Slide Trail. Snow depths are impressive, with 10.5 inches at Saddle Junction, 12 inches at Wellman Divide, and nine inches at the Peak.
At the Peak on Friday 10th May 2024 at 0745 the air temperature was 37.0°F (3°C), with no measurable windchill temperature, 56% relative humidity, and essentially calm conditions. TRAIL CONDITIONS. Snowmelt has continued to be very rapid in the past week. Trails below 8000 ft are now generally clear of snow.
Looking south from San Jacinto Peak across the San Jacinto high country, early morning 23rd April 2024. Very dense marine layer cloud at about 4000 ft elevation is completely obscuring the western flatlands. TRAIL CONDITIONS. Snow quality has deteriorated with a strong warming trend since 15th April and very rapid melting at all elevations.

Sun-exposed trails up to 10,500 ft are now largely clear of snow. Clear patches are increasing as high as San Jacinto Peak, especially on the south flank.
TRAIL CONDITIONS. Trails above about 7000 ft remain largely snow-covered (wholly snow-covered above about 8000 ft). This will change steadily with extensive melting over the next few days and weeks. Details of PCT tracks and alternates are given in the PCT section above.
TRAIL CONDITIONS. Except where discussed below, trails are clear of snow. All trails below 8000 ft are now clear of snow. Notable snow remains below 9000 ft only in a few sheltered areas. Sun-exposed trails as high as San Jacinto Peak are now largely clear of snow, especially on the Peak’s south flank. Tracks through the remaining snow ...
The purpose of the San Jacinto Trail Report is to enhance hiker and mountaineer safety by providing accurate and detailed trail condition information for the San Jacinto mountains.
In addition to multiple ascents of San Jacinto Peak by different routes in recent days we have also surveyed Spitler Peak Trail, several segments of PCT Miles 151-170 and its side trails, plus multiple Forest roads. Current conditions for individual trails are discussed in detail below where known.
