This is a list of countries and territories by land and maritime borders. For each country or territory, the number and identity of other countries and territories that neighbor it are listed. Land borders and maritime boundaries are included and are tabulated separately and in combination.
France and its territories. The French Republic [1] has terrestrial borders with 10 sovereign states, 8 bordering Metropolitan France [2] and 2 bordering the Overseas Departments [3] [4] of France, totaling 3,959 kilometres (2,460 mi). The territory was then returned to France 48 years later after the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. The border changed again in 1941 when Nazi Germany de facto annexed the region (without international legal recognition, or treaty). The current border was re-established after the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.
