If you wanted a cheaper 240v option, get a NEMA 6-20 adapter ($35) and a Hubbell 6-20 outlet ($25). Charge is about 15-16 mph but that is adequate for most. But again, the correct answer is the Tesla Wall Connector as in the end it is the safest, easiest, most hassle free option and the cost difference is negligible.

Although it was a choice for the owner. I think it has to do with any potential difficult city inspectors. But OP is in Los Angeles, and if you are with SCE, you may want to get a permit. Because your 240 outlet could be free if it is under $500. Charge Ready Home Installation Rebate | SCE Clean Fuel Rewards Program.

I'm going to be having a 240v outlet installed in my garage in anticipation of my S60 arriving. I see a lot of mention of Nema 14-50. Is this the most common 240v outlet? The Tesla website seems to say that the provided 240v adapter is "owner's choice." Thanks in advance!

Canada. Oct 30, 2018. #1. About 2 feet from where I park I have 20amp 240 plug. I am tempted to just buy the adapter and use this as my charger when I need a home charge. I drive about 60 miles most days so overnight I should be able to top up my car easily. I have a charging station at work (but spend as much time out of the office as in it).

Ideally, you will have a 14-50 outlet installed. Properly installed, that will have a 50a breaker, proper wire gauge, and this will allow it to handle 40a continuous load. Your included UMC will charge your car at 32a when plugged into a 14-50 outlet. If near the panel, it's approx $50-100 USD in parts.

    322. Rancho Cordova. Oct 22, 2021. #1. So an electrician just came by and saw that I already have a 220 volt outlet in the garage all ready to go. I also bought a Tesla wall connector for charging my model Y. So what are my options here: 1.

The Tesla Wall Connector is fully weather rated. The Wall Connector now comes with a 24 foot charging cord. You can purchase a weather housing for the 14-50 receptacle (check on Amazon) but it will not be fully weather rated as moisture can still get into the receptacle. The charging cord on the Mobile Connector is only 18.5 feet in length.

  10. Charging Nema 6-20? - Tesla Motors Club

    teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/charging-nema-6-20.182429

South Florida. Feb 6, 2020. #13. The 5-20 (Charges at 16A) is also more efficient than the 5-15 (Charges at 12A) when it comes to amps that make it into the battery (this is why Telsa is switching to charging for amps used vs amps into the battery). I was seeing appox 27%-25% loss and appox 18% to 16% loss on the 5-20.

  11. Tesla wall charger that plugs into Nema 240 volt wall outlet

Hard-wire a Wall Connector-- If you've already got a NEMA 14-50 outlet, an electrician should not have trouble hard-wiring a Wall Connector to the wiring currently used for the 14-50 outlet. The resulting unit won't be as easily removed, of course, but it'll work just as well -- maybe better.
