    Italian here too. Please note that Ferragosto is also a bank holiday, hence its non-religious character is stated by the law. Once the day might have been chosen to fit the widespread Catholic tradition (which builds upon the Pagan one) but it cannot be considered as a branch of a religious festival any more.
