Founded in 1907 [2] as Southgate County School, the school was originally housed within Broomfield House, Palmers Green. [3] The school subsequently moved to Fox Lane (also in Palmers Green). In 1960, the Fox Lane site was closed and a new site, in Sussex Way, Cockfosters , was purchased.

In 1960, Minchenden School took over the buildings in Fox Lane, Palmers Green that had been vacated by the move of Southgate County School to its current site in Sussex Way, Cockfosters. [2] The Arnos School buildings were further extended in 1964 and 1966.
Moody was educated at Southgate County School, which at the time was a state grammar school, and based in Palmers Green, Middlesex, followed by the London School of Economics in Central London, where he trained to become an economist. The school was established in 1919 in Tottenhall Road as a mixed secondary school. In 1924, it moved to Southgate House, where it remained until 1987. [2] The staff and pupils built an observatory. [3] From 1960 to the early 1970s, there was an annexe in the Fox Lane school, Palmers Green. [1] The annexe catered for the 1st 2 years of pupils.
