The FIVB Women's Volleyball World Championship is an international volleyball competition established in 1952. It is contested by the women's national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The tournament has taken place every four years.
There is also an NCAA Men's National Collegiate Volleyball Championship, which until 2012 was open to members of all three NCAA divisions,, as there are far fewer men's programs than women's. However, starting in the 2011–12 school year (2011 women's season, 2012 men's season), a Division III championship was established.

The 1999 FIVB Volleyball World League was the tenth edition of the annual men's international volleyball tournament, played by 12 countries from 28 May to 17 July 1999. The Final Round was held in Mar del Plata , Argentina .
