Howard County is a county in the state of Nebraska. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 6,475. [1] Its county seat is St. Paul. [2] The county was formed in 1871 and named after Civil War General Oliver Otis Howard. [3] Howard County is part of the Grand Island, NE Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The Howard County Courthouse, on Indian St. between 6th and 7th Sts. in St. Paul, Nebraska, was built in 1912. It was designed by Berlinghof & Davis and George A. Berlinghof in Classical Revival style. It is a four-story building made of brick and of Bedford, Indiana limestone. [2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
