Fort Stevens was an American military installation that guarded the mouth of the Columbia River in the state of Oregon. Built near the end of the American Civil War, it was named for Civil War general and former Washington Territory governor, Isaac I. Stevens. The fort was an active military reservation from 1863–1947. [2]
On 4 December 1942, the War Department established a 5,500-acre (8.6 sq mi; 22 km 2) combat engineer replacement and training center in central Oregon, along the Deschutes River south of Bend. It was named in honor of Brigadier General Henry Larcom Abbot , who had led a survey party through the area in 1855.

The Fort Klamath Museum is housed in a modern structure designed after the fort's guardhouse and standing in the original guardhouse location. The Fort Klamath site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. [1]
