In Christian communities, Bible study is the study of the Bible by people as a personal religious or spiritual practice. In many Christian traditions, Bible study, coupled with Christian prayer, is known as doing devotions or devotional acts. Many Christian churches schedule time to engage in Bible study collectively. [1]
Sermons to Young Women (1766), often called Fordyce's Sermons, is a two-volume compendium of sermons compiled by James Fordyce, [1] a Scottish Presbyterian clergyman, [2] which were originally delivered by himself and others. [2] They were intended for a primarily female audience.
The BWTA was re-named the National British Women’s Temperance Association [9] and its honorary secretary was Jane Aukland. [10] The Association supports a whiteribbon (publishing) company, an industrial farm home, a retreat for inebriate women, St. Mary's Training Home for Girls Alpha House, a preventive and rescue home.
Sunday school often takes the form of a one-hour or longer Bible study, which can occur before, during, or after a church service.
