Troost Avenue is one of the major streets in Kansas City, Missouri and the Kansas City metropolitan area. Its northern terminus is at 4th Street and its southern terminus Bannister Road, totaling 10.7 miles (17.2 km). It is named after Kansas City's first resident physician, Benoist Troost.
Segregation, Jim Crow laws, and redlining kept Black Kansas Citians east of Troost Avenue for much of the mid-20th century. Prospect became one of the main commercial thoroughfares of the East Side during the 1950s and 1960s, providing the entertainment that the African-American community was barred from in locations such as Westport, the River Quay, and the Country Club Plaza.
