Leslie Basil Cross (18 April 1895 – 12 April 1974) was a theologian and a university chaplain and tutor. Cross held various positions at Jesus College, Oxford – in addition to teaching students for the whole of the Theology degree at Oxford , he was Estates Bursar (1941–43) and Senior Tutor (1945–47).

The medallion features a silhouette of a man embracing a cross. The cross is red for members who have made lifetime promises and white for members who have made temporary promises. Members who have not yet made promises wear a simple wooden cross. Lay associates of the order wear the same symbol in the form of a lapel pin.

It is related by numerous historical accounts and legends that Helen, the mother of Roman emperor Constantine the Great, recovered the True Cross at the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, when she travelled to the Holy Land in the years 326–328.

John Weir Foote, VC CD (May 5, 1904 – May 2, 1988) was a Canadian military chaplain and politician. He received the Victoria Cross for his actions during the Dieppe Raid in 1942. Foote is the only Canadian chaplain to be awarded the Victoria Cross.
