The Lower Main Street Commercial Historic District in Boise, Idaho, is a collection of 11 masonry buildings, originally 14 buildings, that were constructed 1897-1914 as Boise became a metropolitan community. Hannifin's Cigar Store is the oldest business in the district (1922), and it operates in the oldest building in the district (1897).
The original store was founded in 1968 by J.R. "Bob" Schwenkfelder, in downtown Boise, Idaho. [1] The store remains active to this day among an ever-growing expansion of stores throughout Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Utah. Their corporate headquarters resides in Meridian, Idaho, and is managed by Bob and his son Trent.
The Boise meridian is one of the 35 principal meridians of the Public Land Survey System of the United States. Adopted in 1867, its longitude is 116° 23′ 35″ (or 116° 24′ 15″ [ 1 ] ) west from Greenwich and its principal baseline is latitude 43° 22′ 21″ north. [ 2 ]
