Van Alstyne Homestead is a historic home located at Canajoharie in Montgomery County, New York. It is a long, low rectangular house with a steeply pitched gambrel roof in the Dutch Colonial style. The original fieldstone house was built before 1730 and has three rooms (loft, living area, kitchen cellar) with a garret under the roof.
Van Alstyne is a city in Grayson and Collin Counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 3,046 at the 2010 census , [ 5 ] up from 2,502 at the 2000 census. The Grayson County portion of Van Alstyne is part of the Sherman – Denison Metropolitan Statistical Area .
Evidence indicates that the 1889 construction may have been a renovation of an 1861 structure built by William A. Van Alstyne and purchased in 1882 by John Jasper Sweeney and Edward L. Coombs. Gus Fredericks joined the Sweeney and Coombs Jewelry firm before 1889. The building is on the corner of Main Street and Congress Street at 301 Main Street.
It flourished in the early part of the 20th century but had all but disappeared by the late 1950s, as Texas State Highway 121 passed through the site of the community. After subsequent road expansion required the demolition of most of the houses, all that remained was a roadside fruit stand, for which Lola only charged a pittance of rent.
