Centralia is a city in Clinton, Jefferson, Marion, and Washington counties in the U.S. state of Illinois with the largest portion in Marion County. The city is the largest in three counties, Clinton, Marion, and Washington, but it is not a county seat for any of them. The population was 12,182 as of the 2020 census, down from 13,032 in 2010. [4]
The earliest buildings in the district date from the 1850s, as the city was platted in 1853. Centralia's first commercial buildings were mainly designed in the Italianate style, which was predominant until the end of the 19th century; the Romanesque Revival style also gained popularity in the 1880s.
Centralia township (T1N R1E) is centered at 38°31'N 89°5'W (38.517, -89.087). The city of Centralia is located in the western part of the township. The township is traversed by U.S. Route 51 (north-south) and by State Route 161 (east-west).
