The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) is a broad-based coalition of American horse racing interests consisting of leading thoroughbred racetracks, owners, breeders, trainers and affiliated horse racing associations, charged with increasing the popularity of horse racing and improving economic conditions for industry participants. The Thoroughbred Racing Associations formed in 1942 as the United States' entry into World War II created a potential halt to horse racing in the country, Alfred G. Vanderbilt Jr. began to develop the formation of a commission of racetracks. [2] At the time, Vanderbilt was the president of Pimlico and Belmont Park. [2]
