Not strictly a "new user" welcome (more like, a "don't go" template, or "welcome to independent editing"), retention templates are geared towards editor retention, that is, keeping editors active at Wikipedia who might otherwise leave.

It always feels a bit odd (at least it does to me) when I add a template like {{welcome-graphical}} to someone's user talk page when they have made essentially zero edits. If there are no such templates, maybe a few existing ones could be tweaked to add a parameter that gives the option of deleting the boilerplate "contributions" sentence.

In response to the comment that they "would have run away" if they, as a new user, had seen the updated welcome greeting: When a relatively new user had the choice between the current Welcomeg greeting posted on their page and the modified version, they ran away from the current greeting and replaced it with the collapsible version.
