It was a 1984 addition to the original structure, designed by the United States Bureau of Reclamation, which raised the height of the lake by 27 feet (8.2 m). [5]

On March 23, 2007, severe thunderstorms passed through Eastern New Mexico and West Texas which spawned several tornadoes, including one in Logan, which destroyed 30 motor homes and mobile homes.
