Boppard's town forest is the second biggest in Rhineland-Palatinate with an area of 43.6 square kilometres (16.8 sq mi). Since 1969, the town of Boppard has belonged to the Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis, and is the district's northernmost municipality. Boppard is a middle centre; the nearest upper centre is Koblenz, some 22 kilometres (14 mi) away.
Boppard Hauptbahnhof is a station in the town of Boppard in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.It is located on the outskirts of the town near the Rhine.It is at a railway junction on the West Rhine Railway (German: Linke Rheinstrecke) between Köln Hauptbahnhof and Mainz Hauptbahnhof, and it is the starting point of the Hunsrück Railway (Hunsrückbahn) to Emmelshausen.
The section of the Hunsrück Railway from Boppard to Emmelshausen is the steepest adhesion railway in western Germany. On the six-kilometre section from Boppard to Boppard-Buchholz it climbs 336 metres. The grade is 6.09% or 1 in 16.4. The section of the Hunsrück Railway between Boppard and Emmelshausen is protected as a monument as a result. [9]
