Vaughan was born September 20, 1910, in Kansas City, Missouri, as Dorothy Jean Johnson. [2] She was the daughter of [3] Annie and Leonard Johnson. At the age of seven, her family moved to Morgantown, West Virginia, where she graduated from Beechurst High School in 1925 as her class valedictorian. [4]

Jacqueline Barbara Vaughn (née Robinson; July 27, 1935 – January 22, 1994) was an American Chicago Public Schools special education teacher and labor leader.Vaughn is noted as the first African-American and first woman to serve as president of the Chicago Teachers Union, the nation's third largest teachers union local from August 1984 until her death in January 1994.
She placed 4th in 2012 United States Olympic Trials (track and field) just weeks after graduating high school with a 59.68 m (195 ft 9 + 1 ⁄ 2 in) [14] 3rd place American record holder Suzy Powell-Roos did not have a qualifying mark for the Olympics and neither did Vaughn, so the Olympic slot went to Gia Lewis-Smallwood.
