The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa (or simply Czestochowa), known also as the American Czestochowa is a Polish-American Roman Catholic shrine near Doylestown, Pennsylvania, founded in 1953. It houses a reproduction of the Black Madonna icon of Częstochowa, Poland.
It is held each year on the 170-acre (0.69 km 2) grounds of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa (often referred to as “American Czestochowa.") in Doylestown, PA., a northern suburb of Philadelphia, PA. It is a five-day event that takes place during the first two weekends of September (including Labor Day).
In 1980, St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church, a polish church in Williamsburg was closed and the congregants joined with Our Lady of Częstochowa, at which time the church assumed the new name of Our Lady of Częstochowa-St. Casimir Church. In 1996, the church celebrates its 100th anniversary.
The three sisters came to Boston on September 15, 1988, where they set up temporarily at the Convent in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish. It was the first international house founded outside of Poland. On October 10, 1993, the sisters moved to the current convent near St. Ann's Parish at the Neponset Ave. in Dorchester.
