The material is sometimes damaged by direct application of heat. Quartz engineered stone is less heat resistant than other stone surfaces including most granite, marble and limestone; but is not affected by temperatures lower than 150 °C (300 °F). Quartz engineered stone can be damaged by sudden temperature changes.
Blue Granite – Variety of monzonite, an igneous rock; Epidosite – Hydrothermally altered epidote- and quartz-bearing rock; Felsite – Very fine-grained volcanic rock that sometimes contains larger crystals; Flint – Cryptocrystalline form of the mineral quartz; Ganister – Hard, fine-grained quartzose sandstone, or orthoquartzite
Monzogranite is associated with the Pilbara craton, a terrane that collided with Western Australia approximately 3.315 Ga, forming a greenstone belt. These monzogranites are typically highly fractionated, rich in potassium, poor in aluminum, and have trace element compositions consistent with remelting of an older tonalitic–trondhjemitic–granodioritic crust.
Granite (/ ˈ ɡ r æ n ɪ t / GRAN-it) is a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock composed mostly of quartz, alkali feldspar, and plagioclase. It forms from magma with a high content of silica and alkali metal oxides that slowly cools and solidifies underground.
Quartz is present in significant amounts. Biotite and/or hornblende constitute the dark minerals. Because of its coloring, it is often confused with granite, but whereas granite contains more than 20% quartz, quartz monzonite is only 5–20% quartz. Rock with less than five percent quartz is classified as monzonite.
Often the species of mafic minerals is included in the name, for instance, hornblende-bearing granite, pyroxene tonalite or augite megacrystic monzonite, because the term "granite" already assumes content with feldspar and quartz. The rock texture thus determines the basic name of a felsic rock. Close-up of granite from Yosemite National Park.
