The Hoffman Automobile and Manufacturing Company was founded in 1900 by French immigrant Louis Hoffman and based in Cleveland, Ohio. The first cars went on sale in 1902. The original versions ran on steam, but the business eventually accepted the internal combustion engine. Hoffman departed the company in 1903.
The Crawford Automobile Company was an American automobile manufacturing company based in Hagerstown, Maryland which produced cars from 1905 to 1923. After the Crawford Automobile Company was purchased by the M. P. Moller Pipe Organ Co. , they produced a sporting version of the Crawford called the Dagmar (in production until 1927).
Production continued until 1908, but by then the cars had become larger and more expensive. The final models, with four-cylinder engines, were a 16/20 hp selling for $1,750 (equivalent to $57,225 in 2023, and a 30 hp for $2,750. The company closed in November 1908 and sold the Hagerstown factory. [2]
