Howard County is one of 92 counties in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 83,658. [1] The county seat is Kokomo. [2] Originally named Richardville County, it was renamed in 1846 to commemorate General Tilghman Ashurst Howard. Howard County comprises the Kokomo, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Born in Kokomo, Indiana, Howard served in the United States Army during World War II. He then worked for the Kokomo Police Department. Howard then worked for the Howard County, Indiana Sheriff Department and served as sheriff. Howard served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1986 to 1994. [1] [2]
