The Welland Canal was officially opened on November 30, 1829, exactly five years after the first turning of the sod. Two schooners, Annie and Jane from York, Upper Canada and R.H. Broughton from Youngstown, New York, left Port Dalhousie on Lake Ontario and arrived in Buffalo on the eastern end of Lake Erie two days later.
In 1921, the carousel was moved from its original location in Scarborough, Ontario to its current location in Port Dalhousie. At the time, Lakeside Park had 58 attractions. The Lakeside Park Carousel is the only remaining attraction at Lakeside Park, and is now owned by the city of St. Catharines. [1]

The initial layout was about 32 km. This was mainly between St. Catharines, Thorold, and Port Dalhousie. Several plans were made to extend the rail network to Hamilton and Toronto; however, none of them were successful. This included a plan to build a radial network along hydro rights of way.
Dalhousie (/ d æ l ˈ h aʊ z i / dal-HOW-zee) [2] was a town in Restigouche County, New Brunswick from 1905 to 2023. It was amalgamated with Charlo to form the town of Heron Bay. [3] [4] [5] The name Dalhousie is still retained for address purposes. Heron Bay is the northernmost municipality in New Brunswick.
