The photographs are of hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, typhoons, fires, avalanches, ice storms, blizzards, terrorist attacks, earthquakes, and the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.
By a year after the hurricane, unemployment in Louisiana had fallen to 3.5%, partly due to new jobs in construction. In the year after Katrina, Louisiana's population fell by 380,000 people, while 11,000 people from disaster areas moved elsewhere in the state.
