Lake Hopatcong is the largest freshwater body in New Jersey, United States, about 4 square miles (10 km 2) in area.Located 30 miles (48 km) from the Delaware River and 40 miles (64 km) from Manhattan, New York City, the lake forms part of the border between Sussex and Morris counties in the state's northern highlands region.
The lake covers 329 acres (1.33 km 2), with a mean depth of approximately 5 feet (1.5 m) and a maximum depth of 10 feet (3.0 m). The lake's watershed covers 14,000 acres (57 km 2 ). Lake Musconetcong is downstream of Lake Hopatcong , the largest lake in New Jersey and is part of its watershed.
Hopatcong (/ h oʊ ˈ p æ t k ɒ ŋ / hoh-PAT-kong) is a borough in Sussex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 14,362, [9] [10] a decrease of 785 (−5.2%) from the 2010 census count of 15,147, [19] [20] which in turn reflected a decline of 741 (−4.7%) from the 15,888 counted in the 2000 census.

[1] The lake, with an outlet 2 miles (3 km) to the southwest into the Musconetcong River, is part of the Delaware River watershed.
