£20 note, issued from London in 1934. Twenty pound notes were introduced by the Bank of England for the first time in 1725. The earliest notes were handwritten, and were issued to individuals as needed. These notes were written on one side only and bore the name of the payee, the date, and the signature of the issuing cashier.

In 1921 the Bank of England gained a legal monopoly on the issue of banknotes in England and Wales, a process that started with the Bank Charter Act 1844, when the ability of other banks to issue notes was restricted.
The £20 note is currently the second smallest denomination of banknote issued by Danske Bank. [6] The current £20 note featuring an image of engineer and inventor Harry Ferguson was first introduced in 2013, and is unchanged in design compared to the previous issue, except that the note bears the name Danske Bank, rather than Northern Bank. The new note keeps the base design concept of the existing paper note but with subtle colour and feature upgrades - including a revised main portrait of inventor John Dunlop.
