Carl Eddie Hewitt (/ ˈ h j uː ɪ t /; 1944 – 7 December 2022) [2] was an American computer scientist who designed the Planner programming language for automated planning [3] and the actor model of concurrent computation, [4] which have been influential in the development of logic, functional and object-oriented programming.
