"Butterfly on a Wheel" is a song released by English gothic rock band the Mission in January 1990. It was the first of three singles to be released from their third studio album, Carved in Sand (1990).

The band had invited members of its fan club to help select the tracks for the album. A "companion" album with outtakes that were not included on Carved in Sand - entitled Grains of Sand - was released in November the same year. A deluxe two-disc edition of the album was released in February 2008.
The band had spent much of 1986 touring around Europe and had performed two radio broadcasts for the BBC. In the summer of that year, they signed with Phonogram after releasing two independent singles. Much of the material had featured on the tour and the band completed Gods Own Medicine within a period of four weeks. [7]
Craig David Adams was born in Otley, Yorkshire, on 4 April 1962, and was brought up in Leeds.Adams left school to pursue a career in music and initially played keyboards in a local band the Expelairs, who released a handful of singles.
