A tubing hanger is a component used in the completion of oil and gas production wells. It is set in the tree or the wellhead and suspends the production tubing and/or casing. Sometimes it provides porting to allow the communication of hydraulic, electric and other downhole functions, as well as chemical injection. It also serves to seal-in the ...
Provides a means of tubing suspension (Tubing is removable pipe installed in the well through which well fluids pass). Provides a means of pressure sealing and isolation between casing at surface when many casing strings are used. Provides pressure monitoring and pumping access to annuli between the different casing/tubing strings.
THF – tubing hanger flange; THF – tetrahydrofuran (organic solvent) THP – tubing hanger pressure (pressure in the production tubing as measured at the tubing hanger [citation needed]) THRT – tubing hanger running tool; THS – tubing head spool; TIE – tie-in log; TIH – trip into hole; TIS – tie-in spool; TIT – tubing integrity test
Tubing is a smaller diameter pipe that is run inside of the production casing. A packer is usually set at the lower end of the casing to prevent formation fluid from entering the annulus between the tubing and the casing. A packer is an elastomer cylinder that forms a pressure seal between the tubing and the casing.
Mechanical set packers are set by some form of tubing movement, usually a rotation or upward /downward motion. Others can be weight set—the tubing weight can be used to compress and expand the sealing element. By a simple up string pull the packer is released. It is used best in shallow low pressure wells that are straight.

Casing Diameters of a Borehole Casing Diagram premium gas tight connections on a casing string. Casing is a large diameter pipe that is assembled and inserted into a recently drilled section of a borehole. Similar to the bones of a spine protecting the spinal cord, casing is set inside the drilled borehole to protect and support the wellstream.
