Murphy is a city in suburban Collin County, Texas, United States. The 2020 census reported the population as 21,013 [ 4 ] compared to 3,099 in 2000. Murphy is located northeast of Dallas and has a history that goes back to the late 1800s.
Farm to Market Road 1092 (FM 1092) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that is within both Fort Bend and Harris Counties. The highway starts from State Highway 6 (SH 6) in Missouri City and goes north to Interstate 69/U.S. Route 59 in southwest Houston. The divided highway is also known as Murphy Road along its entire length.
RM 501 was authorized on July 13, 1945, as Farm to Market Road 501 (FM 501), a 3.4-mile (5.5 km) road between SH 16 in Cherokee and the Salt Branch Road in San Saba County. On November 29, 1957, FM 501 was extended west to Pontotoc, replacing FM 1648 ; at this time, the designation was changed from FM 501 to RM 501.
On June 21, 1938, the Cleveland-Neville's Ferry Road from Cleveland to Rye had its routing approved, and construction started on it. [9] On March 18, 1947, SH 105 was routed on the Cleveland-Neville's Ferry Road, closing the gap. [10] Construction was sporadic, with the section between Conroe and Beaumont not completed until the 1960s.
From there, it follows Grand Avenue along White Rock Lake and then Garland Road into Garland as it passes I-635. In Downtown Garland, Highway 78 follows the central streets of Avenues B and D before joining Lavon Drive and moving northeastward. It continues to the northeast through Sachse and Wylie, crossing between Lake Ray Hubbard and Lake Lavon.

The northwest section of Loop 20 west of I-35 to Farm to Market Road 1472 was originally part of Farm to Market Road 3464, [7] [8] a 1.15-mile (1.9 km) road designated on October 26, 1983 to connect I-35 to FM 1472 in northern Laredo, Texas. On April 1, 1988, the route was extended east 2.0 miles (3.2 km) over FM 3488, which was cancelled. [9]
