Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukrainian: Івано-Франківськ, Ivano-Frankivs'k; Polish: Iwano-Frankowsk; German: Iwano-Frankiwsk; Russian: Івано-Франкoвск, romanized: Ivano-Frankovsk, see also other names) is an administrative center in western Ukraine with almost 350 years of history as a city settlement.

On November 9, 1962, a decree was issued by the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of the UkrSSR, according to which: "Taking into account the wishes of the labor collectives of the city and region, the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of the USSR decided to rename the city of Stanislav (Stanislaviv) to Ivano-Frankivsk, and the Stanislav Oblast to Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast."
The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast Oblast to six. The area of Bohorodchany Raion was merged into Ivano-Frankivsk Raion. [1] [2] The last estimate of the raion population was 68,952 (2020 est.) [3].

Market Square in Ivano-Frankivsk, also known as Ploshcha Rynok (Ukrainian: Площа Ринок), is historically the central square of the city. It is the oldest square and traces its history to the city's establishment.
