Cooper was established circa 1900, and by the mid-1930s had a church, a cemetery, and several houses. Many residents moved away after World War II, and by the early 1990s, only a church and a few widely scattered houses remained in the area. Its population was 27 in 2000. [2]
Townsend moved to Los Angeles in 1904 and was succeeded in ownership of the house and medical practice by Dr. John H. Wilkens, one of the founders of the Lone Star Medical Association. [2] [5] His son George Wilkens eventually took over the practice. [6] [2] In 1986 the property was owned by real estate agent Lee Swearingen.
