The Molalla Buckeroo has been held annually since September 1913, when the railroad came to town. During the early years, the local firemen sponsored the rodeo as an equipment fundraiser. In 1923, the Molalla Buckeroo Association was formed and took over the operation of the Rodeo. [1] No Buckeroo was held in 1917–18, 1942–45 nor 2020.
The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA), based in Walla Walla, Washington, was established in 1949. It sanctions more than 100 college rodeos every year in the United States, and represents over 3,500 student athletes attending more than 135 member colleges and universities.
